Ben Orford is a green woodworker and tool maker from Herefordshire. He has spent the last 11 years working in all aspects of green wood work and and has been turning bowls on the pole lathe for the last 7 years. He has taught himself how to make the tools and equipment for this task and with his help over this course you will too.

Over the 3 day workshop you will learn how a bowl lathe works and how it differs from spindle turning, you will understand the requirements to make and use a bowl lathe.

We will be making a viking style lathe which we can make from green wood using cleaving, axe and drawknife work and drilling to produce a rustic looking but functional lathe that will work well for all your bowl turning needs.

We will cover the making of the lathe and then spend a day learning to use the lathes and the different tools and techniques to enable you to leave the wood with all you need to tackle bowl turning on your own.
